Event discovery and event promotion go hand-in-hand – if you can align these you will probably get more engagement and more bang for your buck in your marketing spend.
EVENT DISCOVERY: WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT HELPS YOUR EVENT PROMOTION
Event discovery is how people find or discover events that are of interest to them.
People look for or discover events on:
- Search engines and paid ads
- Social media and paid ads
- Event platforms
- Newsletters
- Podcasts
- Event Organizer’s website/app
- OOH
- Print media
- Radio
There may be other event discovery channels you can think of.
If you’re organizing an event and want to promote it, you might send out an email or newsletter to your existing audience. Probably also post on social media in the hope the platform’s algorithms will allow your event content to get noticed by your followers.
But also, to get your events noticed by your followers and to attract a new audience, which is just as important, you’ll need to think about where you post details of your upcoming events and where and how it is going to get noticed:
- Which social media platforms to use
- SEO – search engine optimization
- Which event platform(s) to use.
- Which print media
You need to think about how your (potential) audience might search for events and/or discover your events:
- Which search engines they use
- Which social media platforms they use
- Which online and offline groups do they join
- What print media do they read
- What radio, podcasts and video channels do they listen to and watch
- Are your audience located in a particular locality such that OOH may be useful
Event discovery and event promotion go hand-in-hand – if you can align these you will probably get more engagement and more bang for your buck in your marketing spend.
