EVENT MARKETING: CAN YOU MEASURE THE VALUE YOU GET FROM YOUR EVENTS?
As an event marketer, there’s a lot of pressure on you to measure the value, ROI and objectives achieved from your events.
It’s important for you to measure the value you get from organizing and hosting your events. It’s also important to know how your audience – attendees, sponsors, exhibitors – measure value from the events they attend. We’ll explain why.
We wrote, earlier, about: ‘Measuring the Value of an Event’ and ‘How Do People Choose Events to Attend?’
Some factors may be easier to measure than others. In these earlier articles, mentioned above, we’ve listed some factors that might help.
Depending on whether you’re an event organizer, attendee, sponsor, exhibitor, you’ll look at value differently. Your goals and objectives will obviously differ:
- How do you decide which type of events to host, attend or sponsor?
- What goals do you want to achieve?
- How do you measure the value you get from events?
- What metrics do you track?
- Quantitative and qualitative aspects?
- ROI?
- Are you finding measuring value easier with AI?
If you’re the event organizer, it’s important to know your audience. It can be useful to know what your attendees, sponsors, exhibitors want from your events. Knowing how they measure value of events can help you add value to your events.

If you’re organizing an event and want to promote it, you might send out an email or newsletter to your existing audience. Probably also post on social media in the hope the platform’s algorithms will allow your event content to get noticed by your followers.
But also, to get your events noticed by your followers and to attract a new audience, which is just as important, you’ll need to think about where you post details of your upcoming events and where and how it is going to get noticed:
- Which social media platforms to use
- SEO – search engine optimization
- Which event platform(s) to use.
- Which print media
You need to think about how your (potential) audience might search for events and/or discover your events.
Event discovery and event promotion go hand-in-hand – if you can align these you will probably get more engagement and more bang for your buck in your marketing spend.
